The United States birthstones chart lists sapphire as the gemstone for the month of September. Historically, dark blue was the color of gemstones known as sapphires. Other color sapphires were assumed to be different gemstones.
Dark Blue Sapphire Necklace, September Birthstone Jewelry I designed this birthstone necklace to emphasize the blue sapphire beads. The 2 strands in front double the amount of blue where it shows best. For the back, I used little sterling silver tube beads with a few blue sapphires. I added touches of sterling silver to the front using handmade Bali beads.
